The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated professional to join our Installations Regulatory Team in Hertfordshire and North London. In this pivotal role, you will lead on regulatory compliance for hazardous waste and waste classification across a range of industrial sectors. These include chemical manufacturing, incineration, metals, textiles, and refineries.

As the Hazardous Waste Technical Lead, you will:    

• Oversee the team's hazardous waste regulatory work
• Contribute to and help deliver the hazardous waste regime delivery plan
• Review and assess waste classification reports to ensure they meet regulatory guidance and standards
• Monitor and report on performance, supporting continuous improvement
• Provide expert advice to colleagues and stakeholders to ensure compliance and drive environmental outcomes

About the Team

You'll join a collaborative and skilled Installations team, working flexibly across the area to regulate a variety of permitted sites. We're committed to reducing environmental harm and improving compliance across our sectors.

Our Welwyn Garden City office offers hybrid working, allowing flexibility between home and office.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for individuals who have the following:    

• A full UK driving licence is required for the role
• Experience in the process industries or waste management
• Ideally educated to degree level (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Engineering) or equivalent experience
• Ability to review technical waste assessments and ensure regulatory compliance
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership
• Experience working independently and collaboratively to meet shared goals
• Flexibility to travel for operational site visits – (this will involve being within 2 hours of travel distance from Welwyn Garden City)

Incident Response Commitment

All our officers take part in incident response duties. You'll receive full training and support, including flexible working arrangements to ensure this commitment is manageable for you. This may attract an additional payment.
